Traveling to Maine, or do you live there and still don’t get the laws? We feel your pain, so we searched the web for you and pulled together the cannabis laws for consumers in Maine.
Please note that laws are consistently changing and although we work hard to keep this information as up to date as possible we suggest checking with the state’s government site as well.
Adults 21 years of age or older are allowed to possess up to 2.5 ounces (70 grams) of cannabis.
You can legally purchase 2 ounces of cannabis within a 30-day period.
As a medical card holder you can save up to 10% on cannabis taxes.
You can legally consume cannabis on private property out of view from the public.
It is not allowed to consume cannabis on any federal or public land. Being caught consuming in public could result in a fine of up to $100.
Adults are allowed to legally possess up to three mature cannabis plants, 12 immature plants, and unlimited seedlings. All plants must be out of view of the public and inaccessible for anyone under the age of 21.
All growers must tag each of their plants with the grower’s name, their Maine drivers license number or Maine ID number.
If you are found guilty of driving under the influence of cannabis you will face DUI charges and penalties.
It is legal to transport cannabis accessories and up to 2.5 ounces of cannabis as long as it is kept sealed in a child-proof container.
Moving cannabis across state lines is illegal and can result in a steep penalty if you’re caught.
It is also illegal to ship or send it in the mail.
Cannabis is still illegal on the federal level so it is always a risk if you decide to fly with it.
You can use your medical card in another state if that state has medical marijuana reciprocity.
A qualifying visiting patient may purchase up to 2.5 ounces of cannabis and cannabis products every 15 days while visiting the state. You must provide a valid medical marijuana certification and photo ID.
